will i need to lengthen my driveshafts if i put a 4 inch lift kit on my bronco?
im about to lift my bronco 4 inches with the suspension and 2 inches with the body, i need to know what all ill have to do to my suspension for the 4 inch lift kit, will i need sway bar drop brackets and to lengthen my driveshafts or anything? also someone told me to use hockey pucks for my body lift, what would happen if i did this, would they flatten? its a 1990 ford bronco full size
This is where I say: " DO THE MATH"
If the the driveshaft is already at a 3 degree angle (not unusual) and the drive shaft is 48 inches long, then the drop already is sin (3 degree) x 48 or 2.5 inches.
If you add 4 inches to that you get 6.5 inches.
The new angle is arc sin (6.5 / (cos 3 degree x 48) ) 7.8 degrees (you will need to twist the rear end to line up because this is too much and will cause much vibration at the U-joints)
The new driveshaft length would be 48.5 inches so if you have 0.5 inch extra play in the yokes then you do not need to change driveshafts, but if you move back the yoke a half inch and don't have enough extra to account for "wrap-up" as the rear springs twist, then you need that half inch.
