How do you drop the rear of the drive shaft on a 95 Chev 2wd S-10?
I'm needing to replace the gas tank. The Haynes Manual basically says disconnect everything, unbolt the straps and let the tank down.
Not quite so easy! The forward strap is anchored to a heavy steel support which extends across the bottom front the tank. The only way I can see to get the tank out is to be able to slide it sidways toward the drive shaft which is presently in the way. My Haynes manual basicaly says unbolt the two straps and down it will come, NOT! I'm attempting to disconnect the drive shaft at the rear end so that I can swing it ut of the way. I've removed the four bolts and the two straps but it won't budge. Haynes says "tape the bearing cups to the spider to prevent he caps from coming off during removal". In looking at it I can't see how I can get it apart without removing the bearings which almost assuredly result in their bering destroyed. Is it possible to force them sideways?
its just stuck if you took the straps off. you have to get in there with a big screw driver or pry bar. very common. you dont HAVE to tape the caps in place just becareful with the driveshaft. if those caps fall off sometimes the needle bearings in them fall all over the place
