My boyfriend who I was living with at the time had decieded to pull his furnance out of home because he thought it wasn't working anymore. He then proceeded to heat the house with the type of propane tank you use on a gas grill. The tank exploded and caught the house on fire and we lost everything. Can I sue for negligence?
If you were home at the time, then YOU were the negligent one for allowing this to happen. You'd be suing yourself.
You could sue the boyfriend, I suppose (although, I doubt you'd be able to call him a boyfriend after that.) However, odds are you'd lose that case pretty readily as you were a party to the negligence. At best, I could see you two having to split the damages as you were equally negligent.
You would definitely not be successful in a suit against the propane tank manufacturer, or the grill manufacturer, or the furnace manufacturer since you were using all three in a way that they were not built for. Propane grills, especially, come with stern warnings on them NOT to do exactly what you did.
