Why do the teenagers and 20 somethings have an attitude of entitlement?
We bought a car for our daughter and told her she can not be in her cell phone when driving ... what happened she was on her cell phone with her boyfriend and rear ended a car. She's ok as well as the man who she hit ... but now she is livid that we won't buy her another car and she needs to repay us for the car ... is this unreasonalbe?
Nope, sounds perfectly reasonable to me. She should be glad you guys bought her a car in the first place. I had to buy my own, with the money I earned at the job I got when I turned16. (I'm 26 now).
The sense of entitlement can come from various sources. Lack of dicipline while growing up. Parent's who spoil thier kids (especially the divorced ones who try to buy love) or are afraid to tell them no.
But you seem like a good parent, at least you are standing your ground on not buying her a new one and having her take responsibility for the old one. She may be getting this attitude from shows like My Super Sweet Sixteen, or by idolizing people like Paris Hilton, and thinking those lifestyles are the norm.
