Chevy 327, 8 cylinder engine has always run hot. Put in new (rebuilt) Jasper engine 8/08 along with new water pump & other obvious checks & replacements. I added a custom Vintage Air a/c system a few years ago. Would this be adding to overheating issue? I added a new aluminum radiator & electric fan. Need new ideas on how to fix cooling system. Please.
That rebuilt engine has probably been bored to the groady max leaving you with super thin cylinder walls. That can lead to an engine running hot. An AC unit will always add heat which will exacerbate the temp problem. One thing you might check is the lower radiator hose. Make sure it has a spring in it to prevent collapse during acceleration and highway driving. The water pump pulls water from the radiator through the lower hose and if it doesn't have an anti-collapse spring it will collapse and cause overheating during highway driving and acceleration. Also a fan shroud to keep the air flowing through the radiator core and not escaping around the edges. If you can't find any cooling system deficiencies try a product called "Water Wetter". Most auto parts sell it or another brand. When added to the radiator it increases the coolant's ability to transfer heat and will go a long way towards curing over heat problems. I run it in all my old Mustangs as their cooling systems were marginal from the start.
