What new car, any make or model but not hybrid, do you suggest for someone looking for a good economy car?
I am looking for good gas mileage, doesn't have to have a lot of frills (I'd like power windows and fog lights). I am trying to compare the Chevy Aveo, Nissan FIT, Chevy Malibu, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Dodge Caliber and a few others. I'd like a sort of hatch back style if I can find it.
Of the cars you mention, the Caliber is the most technologically advanced, if that is important to you. The styling is very distinctive, and the dealers are highly motivated to make good deals (extreme warranty, too).
The Ford Focus is an excellent car that has held its value well. Very zippy, good ergos.
The Civic is sweet, but more money. The Fit is also a Honda, not Nissan. Perhaps you are thinking Versa? The Fit and Versa are very basic cars. Performance is minimal, but so are their prices. Hard to go wrong.
The Malibu is, at best, ordinary, and of these cars, it depreciates the most. The Cobalt is less expensive, and probably a better car.
The Aveo is the least expensive and is made by Daewoo in Korea. It is no where near the quality of a Kia or Hyundai (also Korean), nor any of the other cars mentioned here.
With the possible exception of the Aveo, all these cars are high quality, durable vehicles. It is difficult to buy a bad new car these days.
Drive examples of each and see if they fit, if you like the acceleration and handling, if the visibility is good, etc. You will be living in the car for a long time. Invest a bit of your time finding the car that makes you smile!
