Do I Have Keratosis Pilaris?
I don't know if I have Keratosis Pilaris in which I heard has a "chicken skin" feeling. I have the bumps all over my legs, upper arms and in the back of my calves. They get red when I itch but when I don't scratch it, the bumps are dark and whenever I pick at it, there is a piece of hair coiled up inside with dry skin on the top of the bump. Do I have Keratosis Pilaris. Is the dark chicken bumps on my skin due to me picking at it? How do I get rid of it or make it look dissapear?
Looking at the symptoms you provided it sounds like Keratosis Pilaris to me. It is not a serious health problem and there is no need to consult your doctor unless you are interested in treatment or it becomes painful or changes.
It is viewed as more of a cosmetic problem them a medical problem and I have found that there are little prescription medicines to treat it. You can go to a doctor to see what you can do but often there is very little. I myself have it on my upper arms and use KP Duty by Dermadoctor. It works great but if you stop using it your Keratosis Pilaris will come back. This will usually be the case with any treatment.
