Ok, 1977 New Yorker. Off the road for a while. Had a tune up etc. At some point it has been fitted with a performance cam and straight dual exhausts. It overheated and had to be towed home. Upper hose, radiator cap, and thermostat replaced, fluid changed. It drove around fine for a few hours, for up to one hour at a time, but would get hot if left standing. The temperature guage works fine. If driving along, it stays reasonably cool, but if in traffic, under load or parked, it gets too hot. About a week ago, it overheated by the side of the road and blew the lower hose out. Luckily the head gasket is ok. If you run it slowly, or under much load, as soon as stopped, the coolant bubbles into the overflow tank rather aggressively. I have to drive about 2 hours from Johnstown to New Castle tomorrow. If you have any suggestions as to preventing these strange symptoms, please let me know. Again, new thermostat, fluid, hoses and cap. Why did it run fine for a week and then act up again?
Now, its either the water pump or the radiator is clogged.
