If you're doing a full rebuild, you could use a 302 crank, but ONLY if you also use 302 rods and pistons. The bore and block are the same, the only difference between the 302 and 289 is the stroke...which is why you'd have to use the 302 pistons and rods. The 302 rods are shorter, and the 302 pistons have a shorter skirt. If you try using 289 pistons, the skirts will hit the throws on the crank.
