I'm 18 years old and I want to get into motorcycle drag racing. I've race Dirt Bikes, and I've ridden a Motorcycle a few times, but I want to get into motorcycle drag racing like for the AMA. I want to one day get into the Pro classes(manily Pro Mod or top fuel or pro stock) but how would I start. I'm planning on buying a bike(SV650 or SV1000), would a 1000 0r 650 be good since I've only ridden 250s and 500s before? Also would it be better to stick with the Japanese In-lines or could I try V-Twin(I am a fan of the V-twins). How would I start this?
As any kind of racing, the only way is to start at the amatuer level, and work your way up the ranks. Just be sure you have the funding, because a sport like drag racing can cost THOUSDANDS of dollars per race. Its not a cheap sport, and motorcycles can go through motors like you go through socks. As for the V-Twin part, you dont see many in drag racing on the import side, probably just because inline 4 motors are built for top end speed, not for torque.
