How many miles is too many miles on a sport bike?
I am looking at upgrading from my old 250r. I am looking at a 2001 Honda CBR 600 F4i with 21,000 miles on it. This is the description on the ad:
Its a 2001 with 21000 miles on it. It has yoshimura full exhaust with cabon fiber slip on. It has a front sprocket on it that is geared down one tooth. New front tire, undertail, k and n air filter. i have a red rim detail kit and rear brake pads for it too. it has a fresh front brake flush by pure honda including new pads. i also had the fork seals replaced in august. Good shape and runs great.
- is this a good buy, because I don't want to buy a bike that has to be in the shop all the time....
Thanks
As my man tomcat said, milage is not an issue. you have to inspect the bike and test drive it. it couuld be a great machine or a piece of junk. just because its a tooth down does not mean it was being abused and stunted. I would also not pre-judge the bike because it had fork seals replaced quite yet, being that it has the number of miles it has. It may have been time to replace them having 21 k on it, but do inquire and ask questions and try to determine if its been beat on can also say that someone knew what they were doing becuase most bikes are wrecked before they hit that mile stone. So take a seasoned mechanic or take it to a shop and have it looked at. If its a very tempting price, then it might be worth the time to do it. If the bike has been well taken care of, 21k is not a factor in this. motors still have lots and lots of life left at 21k. Aslo, any technician that has half a brain and a few days experience can tell if its been on the ground. Dont let anyone scare you out of it by saying its a stunter bike and all that because it has a sprocket on it. The guy may weigh 230 lbs. . They have no idea what the bikes history is and havent seen the bike for that matter.
