Car runs lean after speed run? (Carb)?
I have a 73 duster with a rebuilt 360 street motor. It has a 670 Holley street avenger, and it runs rich while cruising, and about right dead center on the stoich. when flooring it. (I know, it should be the other way around. I'm waiting for a jet kit to arrive to tune it. But in the mean time, here's the problem.
Normally, it runs like I said above, but if I floor it and go through a gear or two, it ends up leaning out to the point of cruising at around 16:1 instead of the normal 13:1. (I'm just throwing out guesstimated numbers). But the funny thing is that the a/f under WOT stays the same all the time, no matter what. Why are only the first two barrels leaning out when cruising afterwords? Any answers? The sensors are Bosch o2 sensors (narrow), mounted about 7in. behind collector, and an AutoMeter stoich. gauge.
Rich while idling and leaning out while under throttle is normal for many carbs and states of tune. You can adjust your secondaries to fatten it up under throttle if you like, but honestly without a real air fuel meter logging a run you will not know where you are.
