Cleaning foam carpet pad residue off the particle board sub floor for the purpose of installing a new "click"
laminate floor. The pad is about 30 years old and is the multi color sponge type. When we pull the old carpet up and and then the pad the pad separates, pills up and some of it sticks to the particle board subfloor and is very tackey and sticked. We have tried various scrapers and that kind of works but doesn't get the subfloor completely clean and leaves enough residue that the subfloor isn't smooth encough. The pad residue sticks to the scrapers and sanding would just ball it up nor really removing it. I'm a little afraid to try a solvent because of the particle board and afraid anythig strong enough to clean the residue would break down the glue in the 1974 (yr) manfactured particle board. Any Suggestions
Get as much off as possible don't worry about the sticky stuff.Make sure there is no chunks.Them make sure you put foam underlay under the click.it is really thin but absorbs the weight of the laminate and cushions it.DO NOT put the laminate down without it.
