Johnson 115hp temp sender location?
I want to install a temperature gauge in my boat and I need to know where the temperature gauge sender goes into the block. I have an OMC temperature gauge and and I also need to know the part number for the sender. It is a 1994 115hp Johnson mod no. BJ115TLERC. Just to confirm, I don't want the overheat alarm senders located on the port and starboard sides of the respective heads, but the temperature gauge sender.
There are 2 ways to install temp senders. If your water jacket covers on the heads have a pre-tapped boss, remove the pipe plug and screw in the sender. The other method, and i believe the more common method on OMCs, is by using a Z shaped bracket which comes with this style sender. This bracket bolts to one of the upper head bolts, and holds the sender in contact with the water jacket cover, effectively measuring the temp of the head. You will need to know the model # of the gauge you have to match the sender, as most come as a kit.
Here is a link to BRPs parts catalogue, which shows the sender and Z bracket. I don't know if these part#s are correct for your gauge, but will give you an idea of the arrangement. Go to the drop down menu, select your year, then accessories, then temp gauge. Be patient and grab a coffee, this is a really slow site.

I also have some good, generic info on temp sender installation from Teleflex. This is a pdf file, so if you can email me with an address where i can send it, i will be glad to.
