Can I feed a combi Oil boiler with pre-warmed water?
I'm planning a new installation so...Can you feed a combi boiler with warm water from a thermal store at mains presure instead of cold mains? Thus retaining the open fire back boiler that currently feeds the thermal store cylinder. Our cylinder is fed from the back boiler and and also contains two imersion heaters on economy seven. The domestic hot water is taken from the mains, through the indirect spiral and out to the taps. I want to divert this into a combi boiler so the we can switch off the imersion heaters yet retain the back boiler as we have a fire most days. My thoughts are that if the thermal store temp is high enough the boiler wouldn't fire up thus saving oil. We have no mains gas so that isn't an option.
The combi boiler will always fire up as soon as the tap is turned.
Instead stop using the combi boiler hot water and use the heating pipes to
heat the thermal store. You will need a twin coil thermal store one coil for back boiler
on coil for combi boiler.
You then use the combi boiler as a conventional heat source with timer and thermostat
to control the thermal store at the required times.
If you are using wood for the back boiler to heat the thermal don't bother you will soon get bored cutting wood etc. Consider solar hot water using old radiator painted black as a very cheap solar hot water system.
