you need to find out for certain what type of switch it currently has on there - is it a simple three terminal SPDT momentary switch or is it a motor-reversing 4 terminal DPDT switch?
if the switch is sending full power to the motor and not operating power relays you need to make sure that the switch is rated high enough to carry the load that the motor will pull.
most importantly, you need to know for sure that the switch is your problem and not the relays or the motor or something else entirely.
