i need to replace my rear end and was wondering what fords came stock with a 4.10 ring gear ratio? or if it would be better to keep my stock 3.73 ratio because i have a lifted truck with 32 inch tires?
3.73s are fine for 32 inch tires, its only about an inch taller than my stock tires on my 98 Silverado which also has 3.73 gears, you wouldn't have to worry about switching the gears out to 4.10s until you go above 35 inch tires, but if you want to change to 4.10s thats fine no problem at all im just saying its not necessary
but whatever gear ratio you decide on i wouldn't go with stock differentials if your going to keep the truck long, i'd find an aftermarket differential thats stronger especially if you use the truck for work and/or off-roading a lot
also if you do change from 3.73s you'll have to change the front differential because both of the differentials have to be the same gear ratio, wouldn't hurt the transfer case in loose mud but anything else it will make the transfer case bind and eventually will need to rebuild it, so if you change the gear ratio in one differential then you have to change the other to the same gear ratio
if you use the truck as a daily driver and go out of town i'd keep it at 3.73s, 4.10s would be better if you drive it off-road a lot or use it for work (hauling and towing) a lot
