Honda Engine Swap Compatability?
Someone let me know if I'm wrong, but is any honda or acura with an H or F series motor able to swap with any H or F series motor? And same with B and D series? It seems as if the H is to the F series, what the B is to the D series. The way I see it is that Preludes and Accords you can basically switch with. And Civics, del sols, crx's you can swap with integra b series'. However what would happen if you tried to put an H or F series into a D series car like a civic? Or if you tried to put and H or F into a B series like an integra? I'm confused on why preludes and accords really just have the H and the F series to swap between while all the other hondas are B and D series compatable
most f's and h's are 6 cyl? Do your research bud, every prelude with H or F is 4 cyl, and all accord models but one comes with 4 cyl. You have no idea what you're talking about, please just don't answer
H-series and F-series are more compatible than the B's and D's. For example, the H-series and F-series transmissions will work on both an H-series or F-series engine. My friend currently has a F-series transmission mated to his H22A. In Japan and Europe, some Accords came with H-series engines from the factory. The Prelude and Accord chassis/engine bays are designed to work with the H & F-series engines; engine mount location and the size of the engine bay.
For D-series and B-series, not much is compatible. Some of the engine mounts are the same, but that's really about it. And like the whole deal with the H-series in the Accords over in Japan and Europe, some Civics, Del Sols, & CRX's came with B-series engines over there (specifically the B16A's & the B16B). Again, the size of the engine bays and the placement of the engine mount brackets are roughly the same, along with the Integras.
Now when you try to put an H-series or F-series into a Civic/Del Sol/CRX/Integra, you need to do modifications to get them to fit. You need special aftermarket mounts for them to fit into the chassis. The shiftlinkage and shifter assembly are also different, so some modifications need to be done. Specifically you need to cut the hole for the shifter assembly bigger, as well as cut another hole to run the shiftlinkage to the shifter assembly (this is more for the other cars other than the CRX, those and the '88-'91 Civics are different).
However, just to throw a curve ball in here, there is also the H2B transmission conversion available. It's basically a plate, new flywheel, and some dowel pins, that allow you to bolt a B-series transmission to an H or F-series block (they also make H2D for D-series transmissions).
