well i have a 2004 subaru wrx sti....and i was thinkin is it possible to change my top mount th e intercooler with a front mount...giving it about 70 more hp....is it possible and how much for the parts and the installation thankz
There are numerous front mount intercooler set ups readily available for the STi. Injen, APS, TurboXS, ARC, just to name a few. It will involve some modification to your car however, except for the APS (Others may not involve modification, but this is the only one I know that does not off the top of my head). Price ranges from $1k-2k, depending on which kit you choose. Install is usually only a couple hundred bucks. Do note that you will need a new intake as well, as the factory system doesn't work with front mount intercooler. As for making your own kit, I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you're doing and have the tools and equipment to make it work. And for the 70 hp, keep dreaming. You will see a few horsepower mostly from less heat soak, but then again you will also gain a little bit of turbo lag because of the amount of piping you just added. On a stock STi, there really is no need for a front mount, unless you're just going for the sleeper look and also changing out the hood. There are a lot of other modifications that are a much better way to spend your money first, as the stock intercooler is good up until about 400 hp anyways....
