Knowledgeable mechanics needed!!! I have a 1992 Ford Ranger and need to boost it's performance BAD!!!?
My '92 Ranger is the base model with that good old 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder engine. Dependable as all get out, but not much power. I need some fairly cheap and easy ways to modify it or do whatever i have to do to boost it's performance in a BIG way, i.e. shift kits, custom exhaust, what can I do???
really need more info on what you want to do. if you just want off the line performance -
1. Nitrous oxide injection system. the stock 2.3 can safely handle a 75 shot. this is about 90% increase in horse power. $400
2. Swap the rear axle for an explorer. find one with 3.73 or 4.11 gears and locker. this will improve your throttle response under all conditions. 96' and newer axles have disk brakes, great up grade. if you install with explorer mounts it will drop the back of your truck about 4". $250
3. Engine swap. I would forget doing a v6 unless it was the 3.8 out of the thunderbird super-coupe. a v8 swap is cheaper and provide more bang and reliability for the buck. a turbocharged 2.3 from a turbocoupe is an option but a v8 swap is cheaper. you can get a 5.0 for $250, but a turbo four will run you $500+.
