can you take someone to small claims after purchasing a vehicle?
ok, bought a 1990 nissan 300zx for $20,000 and the seller was to have it inspected, said that the guy inspecting it backed out because the tires wouldnt pass and it didnt have cats! he handed me $50 to pay for inspection and stated it needed nothing! so i took it to my local garage to get it inspected and the list is a mile long of things it needs. tires, cats, 2 or 3 tie rods, front wheel studs, wiper arms{that he said he had, but didnt} etc.
ok, well the car also has $40,000 worth of work done to it, the only thing i got screwed on was the inspection deal, i wasnt an idiot it's just i payed $22,500 for a car with $40,000 into it!

thanks people for the input, thats what i figured, just thought maybe somebody found a way around it! lol! no problem cause the car is sick, and i still love it!!
You can sue anybody for anything. You could sue the previous owner because you didn’t like the color of the shirt he wore.
The real question is “Will I win”. Small Claims Courts are unpredictable because the “judge” isn’t really a judge. He’s a local lawyer who wants to be appointed to the bench and winning often depends on who puts on the best show.
It’s against Federal and State laws to sell a car without “cats” - catalytic converters. As-Is agreements never cover illegal modifications.
That’s an easy winner.
Whether you’ll prevail on the tires, tie rods, studs and wiper arms is unpredictable. Prepare three binders with pictures and documentation, one for yourself, the seller, and the judge. Dress nicely and be respectful to everyone.
You should realize that winning is often the easiest part – collecting is often impossible.
You spent 20K ?
Good Luck ~
