The right digital camera for me?
I'm looking into buying a new camera. I'm a hobby photographer, and want to have a camera with the option of full manual control (very important), 6-8 megapixels, optical zoom of at least 3. I want to have low noise (important) and clear pictures, and a macro function would be very appreciated. In terms of fast shutter speed, at least 1/2000 would be appreciated.
The option of a waterproof housing would be a great bonus. I say this because I plan on travelling extensively and usually take my camera everywhere. Also, a small, lightweight camera would be a wanted asset.
You should look into the Nikon D40. It is a nice little DSLR, with all the features you want. It very small, one of the most, if not the smallest DSLR on the market. It comes with a 18-55mm lens, and can be outfitted with any other Nikon f mount lenses. It's not water proof, but you can also get a rain guard.
If you don't want a DSLR, you should think about the Olympus Stylus 770 SW. It is basically destruction proof.
