I want to put performance parts on my 1997 Subaru Legacy GT but don't know what to put on first?
I know that if you add on too much power you'll need/want to support it with some suspension and brakes. I was thinking about dropping a turbocharger to add 100 HP but didn't know if I should consider doing some less drastic modifications first. Is there a general rule of thumb most people follow i.e.
1. computer chip
2. sway bars
3. cold air intake
4. Cross Drilled Rotors/Brakes
etc. Please help. all information on mods for a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
Your best bet is to do some simple bolt on mods first. Cold air intake, full exhaust system, and some underdrive pulleys if they make them for your car. A sway bar and cross drilled brake rotors will not make your car any faster. Dave thos for later. As far as a "chip" goes, it is really a custome tune. You should save your dynotune for when you have put everything on your car so that they will all work together in harmony.
As far as the Turbo goes, there is a lot more involved in that then you think. It doesn't just bolt on and then you are done. Putting a supercharger or turbocharger on a motor that was not built for it will cause a lot of issues. You will have to upgrade all the internals of the motor to withstand the abuse or else they will fail resulting in a blown motor. More importantly, can your block handle the added pressure? If not you will blow a head gasket rather quickly. Just do your research before you go into a big project like that.
