I need a hot rod bike (and not a stupid Harley) for my story. Any ideas, because I have no clue when it comes to engines.
Do you mean hotrod as in the crotchrockets? If so, Suzuki Katana, Suzuki Gamma, or Suzuki Wolf...Yamaha Raptor, Yamaha R-1...or Honda CRV are common choices that I think most people would recognize.
For cruisers (ie. Orange County Choppers or Harley Davidson almost anything), Honda Goldwing and Honda Shadow...Yamaha Virago (my personal fave)...
A writing tip: If you're planning on using a car or motorcycle in your story, even if it's a "chick lit" book, it's always best to do at least a bit of research so you know what you're talking about. All it takes is one woman who knows a lot about the subject to get you a scathing review. In other words, always try to do research on subjects you don't know anything about. Hope this helps!
As for engines, I'm not up to date on those anymore...typically they used to come in GS or GT and others...
For size comparison (ie. GT 250, GT 550), the larger the bike, the higher the number. Like...I'm 5' 6" and fairly small, so most dealers wanted to put me on a 250, even though the Honda Shadow and Honda Goldwing were lightweight enough for me to handle a 1000...
