ignition key will turn to 'ACC' but no further on '97 Corolla?
my ignition has been giving me problems for over a year. I have had to jiggle the key etc to get it to turn. the other day I tried to fix the problem by inserting some 3in1 oil on the key and in the slot. 20 minutes later I tried to start the key. It would go to "ACC" (accessory) but would turn any further. Someone said that is odd because since it turns some the shear pins must be lined up ok but we cant figure out why it will not keep turning far enough to start? any help?
You may also be experiencing problems with the shift interlock. This is the device that prevents the car from being started in gear. There may be some manual device that is binding up and not allowing the cylinder to turn.
Otherwise, the only reason the actual cylinder would be damaged would be too much weight on a keychain.
