Brakes - Lancia montecarlo?
Is there a brake expert out there that can help me? I have fitted a new master cylinder to a S1 montecarlo and have bled at least 1.5l of new fluid through the system but still only have half a brake pedal, plus it hardly stops. It still has the servo fitted and the dual system. Any advice from serious people would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Timbo I'm sure Halfords will be delighted to know their brand new 5l was contaminated. Read the Question!
Have you bled from the furthest caliper first?
Make sure all calipers are free and handbrake is off.
Are the pads resonably serviceable, ie thick enough.
Try pumping the pedal several times before releasing the bleed nipple, and hold brake pressure on the pedal before releasing.
Try using the servo pressure, ie, engine running, as it will help with holding pressure.
Have you inspected the brake pipes and hoses.
Are the hoses expanding and contracting due to old age.You can check by having someone press the pedal and pinch the hoses between you fingers, if they swell they need changing. Are the hoses breaking down inside, causing back pressure at the caliper?
Is there a pressure regulating valve to the rear of the car and is it working correctly?
Try bleeding with the car on level ground, or axle stands and not front up rear up or all up one side at a time.
Hope this helps.
