Performance Oversized Oil

Performance Oversized Oil
Im rebuilding a cb100n engine. I am getting the barrel rebored and i have bought an oversized TKR piston.?

Whats is the best and fastest way to 'break in ' a rebored engine. Is there anything i can do to the piston to aid the break in or improove performance.
I have read two ways to break in an engine,
1. take it easy and slowly build up power over 500 miles
2. ride it hard in 2nd- and throttle off and repeat for 3,4,5th. Then change the oil

Ive had bad expierences with rebores in the past, regardless of following the first method, blow-by, burning oil, piston slap.
So i want to avoid all problems and have a perfect running engine, as quite as when it was new.

NEVER abuse a brand new motor - as per #2. You can lunch a ring on your not-yet broken in cylinder walls, at best scoring your brand new bored out cylinder, at worst - well, you can guess. Give the parts a bit to settle in. MAKE SURE you're getting a good rebore - If you've had this happen more than once from the same shop, you might want to try a different machine shop?

Also remember - a new motor will burn oil and have some blowby until everything seats. A rebuild is NOT the same as new. Ya gotta give it time.

My break in regimen - You want to "heat cycle" your motor a few times. Start it, get it warm, and shut it down, letting it cool. I throw a couple of those big ol' Costco floor fans in front of the motor to keep it cool-ish. Being somewhat ancient, I use non-detergent, but for this part ONLY. Once you've heat-cycled the motor a few times, (figure a few hours) dump that crappy non-detergent oil, put a good NON - SYNTHETIC in it, and do your break in. do NOT use a synthetic for break-in as you will get the symptoms you're trying to avoid.

Driving? First few hundred miles take it easy - never more than 50-70% RPMS or power, never let it get too hot. Vary your RPMS, but DON'T lug the motor, don't over-rev it. It's a weekend project, take your time, stop for a lot of smoke breaks, photo ops, whatever.Change the oil out at 500 miles. Still, don't use a synthetic yet.

Once you get the first 500 miles in, start pushing the envelope. By the time you get to 1000, you'll have a well broken in solid motor you can take up to red line without worrying, that will run like new. Swap out the oil, for your (maybe) last load of dino oil, run it like a bat outta hell for 500 (as per #2) , and change out your oil for whatever you usually use. Your rings will be sealed, your motor fresh, compression good, and your bike oughta haul butt.
