In NASCAR and other road racing venues why the flames?
When a roadrace car enters a turn and the driver slacks of the gas, why is there fire coming from their exhaust pipes? Unburnt gas? Why? The fuel mixture doesn't completely burn because of_____?
Thanks for the response! Now, why doesn't all of the fuel burn during the power stroke, is the exhaust valve overlap at the cam? So, what would be the ratio of unburnt nitromethane for a top fueler?
It's unburned fuel. NASCAR mufflers don't use spark arresters like a street vehicle does. It's a little more common now that NASCAR has switched over to unleaded gas.
