(multi-port FI) that wont start but turns over like normal. I checked the ignition system for problems and it looks fine(checked plugs, wires, ignition coil, etc) so I am assuming that it is a fuel issue. I also replaced the fuel filter, but still no luck. My question is this: how do I tell if it is the pressure regulator or the fuel pump that is giving me the problem? Also, is there any other issue you can think of that I should check for while I am at it?
One more thing...
I am only assuming that there is a problem with the fuel pressure. The gauge costs $45 and I'd like to avoid purchasing the tool if I can help it especially since I will only be using it this one time. Any other ideas for testing the fuel pressure would be greatly appreciated.
Need the year , make , and model to tell you what the pressure SHOULD be. Most cars/trucks now a days run on about 60 PSI, and can be no-start with as little as a 5 lb drop. Unfortunately, a Gage is the only way to tell (Hint-Advance/discount auto part stores have a policy that they will refund money on ANY thing they sell-theoretically you could buy the tools to rebuild an engine and they will buy them back when you are done!)
If you are no sure if its fuel or not, spray a LITTLE carb cleaner into the intake and see if it runs. If so, then its a fuel delivery problem, but still not necessarily a pump issue-the cam or crank sensor could be out, not giving the PCM the signal it needs to fire the injectors. Time for some professional diagnostics.
