Pucks Late Model

Pucks Late Model
To model a spacecraft, a toy rocket engine is securely fastened to a large puck, which can glide with?

negligible friction over a horizontal surface, taken as the xy plane. The 4.00 kg puck has a velocity of 8.00 m/s at one instant. Eight seconds later, its velocity is to be (1.00 + 6.00 ) m/s.
(a) Assuming the rocket engine exerts a constant total horizontal force, find the components of the force.
( + ) N

(b) Find its magnitude.
N

you have some problems with this question.

why do you state "(1.00 + 6.00 ) m/s" instead of 7m/s? did you leave something out?

You do not give directions for any velocities. Velocity is a vector and has magnitude and direction.

Since the puck is slowing down, from 8 to 7 m/s, and we ASSUME everything is in the same direction (+x), then the rocket has a negative force.
