sbc starter dragging?
I have a sbc with flat top pistons and a steel crank with aluminum 210 cc runner heads 64 cc chambers 202 1.6 valves and 650 lift springs with .100 longer hardened pushrods i also have a 488 510 lift cam with a procomp air gap intake and a 650 holley double pump carb and a noisy geardrive and a 3000 stall. now here is the problem i am having. It will start runs great when cold after it runs and gets to temp i shut it off and the starter drags so bad it will not turn over fast enough to start until cold again. checked timing at temp and no vacuum advance and it is at about 16 degrees. I also put on a high torque starter it did not help. Any one have any ideas what is going on.
Hot start prob very common. Caused by one or more of these..
Timming advanced too high (try 13-14* rather than 16)
Header over heating starter, try a starter heat sheild
Starter too weak.. "high torque" starter dont mean crap. Theres alot of junk out there like the off shore, off brand $89-110 high torque starters
Here's what I had to go to with my 10.34:1 355, .570"/.579" lift cam, brodix IK200 heads, etc etc

Battery too small
