1962 Corvair Rat Rod. Need tips on how to make it a cruiser.?
i have a 1962 Corvair with an automatic 2 speed power glide. its primered brown right now. i want to primer a different color. looking for a like flat mint green color with the rims painted red on white walls. or a flat black with the same effect to the the wheels. it has stock bucket seats and the interior is blue.
i guess i am asking for ideas on what would look the best. i want to slam this peice, and re-do the interior little by little.
Any ideas are welcome even if they are different from mine. i have never seen a corvair rat rod, so this will be a first to me.
any ideas you think would look cool will be apprecirated. thanks.
Will also like resources on where to get materials such as paint interior peices etc.
clarks corvair should be 'bout the only stop you'll need for all your parts - really, they've got everything - I had a 65 4-door 4-speed till someone decided to run a red light - the car took the accident real well, crumpled up, I was fine, but the car ... well, she died that day ...
As far as suspension goes, not sure how well it'd hold up being slammed, it'd look cool as hell, but I think the angles would be so bad, you'd be going through tires quite often, that is without some serious work.
One thing I do highly recommend is adding sway bars (or rather, anti-sway bars, same thing really) to help with "Body roll" on corners - Ralph Nader said those cars were prone to rolling over, but I've never seen one actually flip - but they sure do feel sloppy in the corners.
I suck with paint and colors, perhaps someone else can help ya with that.
I really do love the Corvair, it ended short of what it could have really been, but that's just because of the mass production of the Mustang, and Chevy decided to focus on the Camaro and Corvette instead of the 'Vair.
