Spacers Pair Weight

I have a 02 mitsubishi lancer i dont have money so i decided to buy used rims the guy told me they would fit my car so i bought them and they didnt fit and the guy wont take back the rims...anyways the rims dont fit because the front 1s scrape agaisnt the breaks but it seems that its only scraping by very little so i was wondering if i can make a big washer (big enough to cover the area the rims are soppose to rest on) and use that as a spacer since its not much of space i need plus spacers for my car cost around 125$ a pair and i dont have that type of money...i read that washers wouldnt work because all the weight would be on the lugs and not evenly distributed but what if the weight is evenly distributed would that work?
