what is a wasted spark set up?
I have a 300kw r33 rb25det and want to change the spark plugs. But a friend told me to just get a wasted spark setup. What is this and should i go ahead with it, or just buy iridium plugs?
If it's not modified buy whatever plugs the manufacturer suggests, they're only a few bucks. Iridium is used with a very hot spark ignition system. If the car orignially came with copper or nickel or something don't use iridium you're decreasing the performance. (Iridium plugs have a longer gap which on older ignition systems means the spark has to jump farther with less power/voltage = less performance and gas mileage)
Waste spark means there is a multiple spark for each cycle, with multiple plugs fired at once, burning fuel more efficiently at lower RPMs. It's possible to increase gas mileage minutely. But with today's cars that extra efficiency is usually made void by the restrictive exhaust emission setups. A waste spark ignition is a lot of money for no power gain. There's no difference between this and a traditional ignition system at high RPMs where peak power is made.
