I have a 98 Volvo V70xc and have had a whine from my power steering unit. I have noticed that there is a leak with fluid from the ground and it appears to be around the high pressure hose coming off the tank. I fill the take back to the normal level and still notice the wine, the fluid appears to be aerated as well. Once the car sits for a few hours the fluid clears up but once the car is run again it begins to wine and get aerated. I opened the tank in good light today and saw that once the full port was opened there were large air bubble coming from the bottom on the reservoir. Where is this leak coming from? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
It's fairly common for the front pump seal to leak, as well as the high pressure line fitting. Make sure the high pressure line fitting at the pump is tight. There is an o-ring that seals the line, it may be bad too.
