help! how can i get 400hp out of a 70's 4 bolt main 350 chevy?
i have a chevy truck block (350) that i bought for a winter time fixer upper that i was wishing to get 400 or more hp out of it. upon tear down i found a bent push rod and a burnt out cam and on that note i decided to make it a street motor for a 76 Chevy truck. its a 4 bolt main and has dished pistons, 1.6 ratio roller rockers, stock crank, stock rods, stock cam, stock 882 heads, and on it there will be long tube headers and a edelbrock combo of a performer rpm intake and a 750 cfm carb. anyways i am wondering on what parts you all would put into the motor to make 400hp.
First thing is a pair of 062 casting Vortec heads and a felpro 1094 head gasket to tighten up the quench. The 1.6 rockers are only helping you because you have a factory cam. Otherwise, on the exhaust side, they will hurt idle vacuume and low RPM torque. They also throw your rocker arm to valve tip geometry out of whack.
A purpose built QuadraJet, and I will make you a cam that I will also give you a money back guarantee.
With dish pistons, I can get you close to 400 dead calm idling HP. Flat top pistons and a zero decked block with the right hone finish, etc and I'll give you well over that. I build about a dozen 350's with this set up every month.
