The nut is 14mm. The lower stud will be replacing the upper.How do I choose the correct drill bit to remove the damaged thread and how do I choose the correct repair kit? The damaged thread is on a catalyst converter. The stud connects the manifold to the catalyst converter.

The diameter of the stud is approximately .9 cm.
I just wanted to clarify that all studs have been removed the only problem is that the thread has been damaged. I bought all new stud replacements.
How do I know if I can re tap it or if I need to drill it?
If they are only damaged threads, cant you just re-tap the threads instead of drilling it?
Or if you use Heli-Coil, the kit will contain which drill bit size to use and some even come with the drill bit.
** I would get the correct size tap and try to re-thread it first.
If it fails you will only be out the price of the tap. Maybe $8 to $15
