supercharging a 5S-FE-what all would i need?
im looking into getting a friend's 91 celica convertible with the 5S-FE engine & i know its common for 4 cylinder engines to be turbo'd but im not at all interested in turboing the car despite some of the obvious benefits-i want to put a centrifugal supercharger on it and my question to you guys is what all would i need to do so? (this car is a 5 speed so im not concerned about burning up an auto trans). i dont need specific parts by manufacturer, im just ooking for an overall list of virtually all the things i am going to need-so far all i know of is:
supercharger
intercooler
piping to intake
fuel pressure regulator
manual boost controller
boost gauge
wideband o2 sensor
-i know im missing a lot-what else will i need? the big thing im concerned about is the computer system needing reprogrammed or such because i dont know anyone to do that & im concerned that alone will cost as much as all the parts together-any help guys?
I am not going agaisnt your choice of trying to force induct a motor, but the 5sfe from toyota was not made from Toyota for performance enhancement upgrades. I know that it is a 2.2 as I had 1 of these in my Camry (Australia) and I looked into modifing a 5sfe. Bloody expensive. The cheaper alternative is to fit the 3sgte ( 2.0 turbo). Being a forced inducton based engine it will be able to handle the forced induction from the super charger easier than the 5sfe.
