My friend is buying a S/C Solara. the car is 140k miles, so I wonder how long the S/C usually last?.
Also, when we test drive, how do I know if the S/C is still working good or not (may be open the hood and listen to the sound? )
When the S/C is broken, can we just replace parts bearings, pulleys.., or we have to replace the whole S/C ? Is the timing belt longer than usual to connect to S/C pulley ?
It really depends on several factors, including when the supercharger was actually added to the V6, how the previous owner(s) drove the car, and how well they maintained the engine & supercharger. There have been several Toyota owners at forums like Toyota Nation known to have gotten over 170k on their TRD superchargers with just replacing the nose drive, but its recommended that the unit be inspected & rebuilt every 100k regardless of condition (I would not wait for things to break when it comes to superchargers). Costs of a rebuild can vary between $350-$1,000+, depending on who is doing the rebuild and what they replace.
