Shouldn't a shut-down relay have it's main high-amp terminals in a normally closed (N/C) possition, so when it gets shut down signal from the E-stop switch it then opens - dissconnecting the current flow? My switch reads -o- continuity across the main high-amp terminals. I haven't tried to energize the pull-in coil on the solenoid yet to verrify the normal high-amp contact possition inside the solenoid, the only logical diagnosis is that the switch is either faulty at the high-amp terminals or it's a normally open(N/O) switch.(N/O)?-This doesn't make sense ot me, why would you want a emergency shut-down solenoid to have a high-amp side that requires being energized, with the low-amp control circuit side, while in current a flow state? It is a continuous-duty rated switch but this only leaves an opening for trouble and possibly dissaster.
You would want a relay to be in a N/O state because if it was in a N/C then the circuit would always be energized and hot, except when opened. This could create a safety issue, especially if the relay goes bad, as you would try to shut it off and can't because the relay is bad. Better (safer) to have the unit not power up if the relay is bad, than to think that it's working and find out thehad way that it's not.
