Mercruiser 5.7 350 engine backfire at low rpm or part throttle?
I just put in a GM Goodwrench 350 performance engine. Upon start up and initial timing we discovered distributor weights were toast so I replaced with a new Mallory dual point with a new cap and rotor. Timing tested perfect to specs at all the rpm ranges. When I had it on water the engine backfires through carb ( mostly on a slow decell at mostly at around 1500 RPM. If I take to 3000 rpm it will run perfectly all day long. Below 2500 I will get intermentint backfire and at 1500 it will not stop backfiring. ???
I have looked at all suggestions. Thank You !!. Distributor does not have vbac advance. Engine is a complete GM long block. The real stumpper is part throttle..... I am thinking that maybe?? wires are bad ???? I am also going to check gap on the NEW ACDelco MR43T plugs.
It sounds like your vacum advance on the distributor isn't hooked up, or hooked up properly.
