How do i get performance grade piston heads, crank, and rods in my Monte Carlo SS 3.8L 20001.?
How much would it cost, what should I be looking for in terms of material such as titanium or steel, what companies should I look at that manufacture them, and what else would I have to change in the engine to match the performance heads. for example would I also have to change the valves?
I'm going to get a performance chip and later on down the road I'm going to put a super charger in it along with other parts.
the parts are not expensive, getting someone to put the parts in correctly IS. Monte Carlo is a nice car, the engine has some strength to it, Cams might need to be replaced with racing cams but i don't think you should worry about the pistons at all. Run the super charger, since it's got a nice engine you don't need to pump in a lot of pressure to keep the HP up. Try 5 and work up to 10. You don't have to change valves but there's the possibility of installing a head gasket which changes the compression ratio so you can rev past the limiter, look up ebay performance chips, they are cheap, they DON'T work, but they remove the limiter and the governor. If you do invest in a chip, i suggest AEM, it pushes a few grand, well worth it. Have fun breakin the speed limit.
