what all is involved in boosting a car?
i know the turbo kit only comes with the turbo, intercooler, manifold, and all the piping, but what else to i need to complete the transformation?
ive heard of stuff like oil lines, spark plugs, and fuel rais and larger injectors. let me know what all is involved
im looking to boost a d16y7 engine. funds will not allow an engine swap at this time so im looking for a kit on ebay, $600-1200. they all included essentially the same parts
its a 96 civic dx
If you are piecing it together on your own then there is a lot to think about - If you are thinking of purchasing a kit then it will be much simpler!!!
I've been piecing together my own for a Honda Accord and will spend about $1500 at the end of things......but thats 30 or so hours of labor just to build the downpipe and exhaust to the "cat"....
But you can save yourself potentially thousands of dollars by doing it yourself.
If your car is "mainstream" enough - you can probably "buy" most of the items already made.If you have an Eclipse Evo or Civic - that is.
I highly recomend you read a book called "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell - its considered the "Turbocharging Bible".
Don't buy "cheap" parts or kits. You will get what you pay for - you can pay now OR you can pay later!!!!!!!!!!
Be aware of "fake" turbos and kits on - EBAY!!! They aren't what they seem - you will notice no brand of turbocharger in most cases with these products and they use the same"nomenclature " as reputable companies like Garret, Turbonetics, Borg Warner etc..........
There is a great website called "G2IC turbo guide" - do the search and read read and reread......... then make a list of all the parts and dollars that you'll need and ask yourself if boosting your car for an extra 30 or 40 horsepower is what you really want........
