why don't foreign hgv drivers have to pay tolls to use uk roads?
if you are a uk citizen , you have to pay road tax(unless car is registered abroad i.e. poland , then you have 12 months to do so!), my question is , the government say that it would cost too much money to collect money from foreign hgv drivers at they come off the ferries at dover , felixstowe etc.., this is costing a fortune (millions) in lost taxes and they also avoid paying duties on their fuel as they have two fuel tanks , which they fuel up abroad, how hard can it be to set up a system at these ports to collect monies as they "roll off" the ferries?? please tell me your views , and yes if you pay road tax this issue does affect you!!
I personally think Road Tax should be scrapped and added to the cost of fuel.
I for one wouldnt mind paying over £1 per litre in that case. That way someone who drives a 1.4 litre car and does 6,000 miles a year pays less tax than someone with the same car that does 60,000 miles a year. You should pay for what you use and also it would stop people trying to aviod paying road tax in the first place.
