I Builded a custom BOV (blow off valve) for 08 Subaru WRX, install was easy but the car's RPM gets really low?
We fabricated a custom Flange to go on the 08 WRX, the BOV is a Greddy Type RS and it works great but the car rpms gets so low that the car sometimes turns off at sudden stops like red lights. I notice that the stock BOV have a hose that connects to the horn and goes back to the intake.
will blocking this hose fix the problem? and also I get the engine light at times.
Well whats happening is that your car is stalling. Basically its running very rich(because the BOV is venting metered air to the atmosphere, when that air should be mixing with fuel in the engine) when you come to an idle and the engine isnt circulating enough air at such a low RPM to defeat the rich situation. This used to happen with me when I had my stock BPV modified to vent to the atmosphere. However, it would only happen near sea-level(I live and work at about 4000-9500ft). The greater outside air pressure at the lower elevation keeps the BOV open longer than it should and hence lets tooo much air out. To fix this problem I purchased a HKS SSQV, it seems a high quality BOV made to vent to the atmosphere solves this problem, and also being a Pull-Type BOV attributes to the fix. That hose running from 'the horn', which is probably your boost controller, tells(it doesnt really tell it anything, the system is completely mechanical except for the boost controller) the BOV/BPV what the pressure/vacuum is in the intake. That tube basically tells your BOV when to be open and when to be closed. And your CEL is coming on because you're catalytic converts are tripping becuase of the extra fuel or something else your engine is not liking.
Your solutions are:
btw, Do Not plug that hose, it will solve nothing and more likely create more problems.
Get a new BOV i would reccomend an SSQV, only from personal experience, it works as far as know, and is the only one I've tried.
Put your old BPV back on, BOVs dont do anything other than make silly sounds. Unless you're running high boost and NEED an upgraded BOV than its just a noise.
Move to a higher elevation, lol
ok so only #1 and #2 are options, let us know what happens...
Thanks
